Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Plant Manager / Operations Manager with a strong background in ice cream manufacturing to lead operations at our production facility. The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of plant performance, ensuring consistent product quality, food safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This role requires in-depth knowledge of frozen dessert production processes, leadership excellence, and a drive for continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct daily operations of the ice cream manufacturing plant, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe production.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety and regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, HACCP, SQF, GMP).
  • Oversee production planning, batching, freezing, packaging, and inventory control to meet customer and market demand.
  • Track and optimize key performance indicators (OEE, yields, downtime, labor efficiency, waste).
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure implementation of safety policies and training.
  • Lead and develop plant teams, including supervisors, operators, maintenance, and sanitation staff.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects (Lean, Six Sigma, TPM) to enhance throughput and minimize costs.
  • Collaborate closely with QA, R&D, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Manage plant budgets, capital projects, and resource planning.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate reports on production metrics, staffing, safety, and quality to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 7–10 years of experience in food manufacturing, with at least 5 years in ice cream or frozen dessert production .
  • Proven track record in plant or operations management, preferably in a frozen or dairy environment.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of ice cream production processes, including mix formulation, homogenization, pasteurization, freezing, inclusions, and packaging.
  • Expertise in food safety and quality management systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing cross-functional manufacturing teams.
  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement techniques.
  • Experience with ERP and manufacturing systems.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Certifications:
  • HACCP Certification
  • SQF Practitioner or PCQI Certification
  • Six Sigma or Lean Certification
  • OSHA Safety Certification
Working Conditions:
  • Fast-paced plant environment with exposure to cold temperatures, noise, and food ingredients.
  • Availability for on-call support, including occasional weekend and night shifts as required.
