Manning Kass is a national civil litigation defense firm that stands out from the rest—every case and client matters. Established in 1994 with just sixteen attorneys, we have expanded over the past thirty years to more than 160 attorneys across seven offices, including major economic hubs like New York and Los Angeles.

About the Role

We are seeking a Litigation Associate to join our New York City office. This role offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of practice areas, including Premises Liability, Products Liability, Professional Liability, Employment Law, and Commercial Litigation.

We are particularly looking for a candidate with strong law and motion experience and excellent legal writing skills. Experience in insurance coverage, is a plus and bad faith law is also highly desired.

Associates will work closely with lead attorneys and be involved in all phases of litigation—from case evaluation and discovery through trial preparation—while contributing to the development of litigation strategy and client solutions. Skills in preparing pleadings, taking and defending depositions, and managing complex discovery are important, though prior trial experience is not required.

We are looking for someone who is eager to learn, highly self-motivated, and committed to long-term professional development within the firm.

Responsibilities

• Draft extensive written discovery, including preparing and responding to interrogatories, documents requests and request for admissions. 
• Proactively manage litigation caseload, draft pleadings, motions, and attend depositions and court hearings
• Excellent writing skills and proficient in legal research.
• Draft trial motions and assist with preparing trial documents, including motions in limine, trial briefs, pocket briefs, and jury instructions and verdicts.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
• Admission to the New York State Bar as well as admission to New Jersey or surrounding Tri-State area is a plus.
• The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of civil/general litigation experience.
• Exceptional research and writing abilities, with strong analytical skills. 
• Experience investigating and case handling with respect to research, discovery, depositions, and mediations.
• Demonstrated experience in civil litigation, preferably within a law firm setting. Strong litigation experience with a capacity to be a proactive team player.

Company Offers

• Competitive salary range of $115,000 - $160,000 plus bonus. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
